Department of Public Works Fleet Management Administration (DPW/FMA) Infrastructure Expansion Project

This project will expand the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure at the DC Department of Public Works Fleet Management Administration (DPW/FMA) facility located at 1836 West Virginia Avenue. This fueling center is located approximately a quarter-mile from US Route 50. It includes the placement of an additional pump with two refueling nozzles to increase the number of vehicles that can refuel. The program works through barriers to open access to federal fleets and local surrounding jurisdictions and includes fueling/safety brochures. Expansion of available pumps with card readers will support refueling needs for other fleets. Like other area fleets, DPW/FMA has used CNG fueling support from three stations sponsored by the Washington Gas Company. These stations have closed causing slow down and long waiting lines to refuel vehicles at our fleet fueling facility. Because the DC government continues to add vehicles and the existing infrastructure support by Washington Gas has declined, the need to expand the infrastructure access to CNG pumps has become urgent. Presently, there is only one CNG pump capable of refueling, one vehicle at a time. Increasing the number of CNG pumps for refueling will also help other local government fleets refuel more efficiently in the District.
