Renewable Portfolio Standard

The exciting and rapid growth of the District of Columbia is not without its challenges. Increasing demand for energy resources is taxing the current infrastructure and releasing dangerous levels of pollutants into the air, both of which adversely affect the quality of life for DC residents. With energy costs high and rising, the time is right for the adoption of new, cleaner sources of electricity. In an effort to spur meaningful investment in a diverse range of sustainable energies, DC government is set to adopt a Renewable Portfolio Standard in 2007. Through this effort, offices in the district will be required to obtain an increasing percentage of electricity from solar, wind and biomass sources. Powered by clean and renewable energy, the DC government is leading the way to a more equitable and responsible future.
