Energy Efficiency Kit Distribution

The concept is an easy one. Teach consumers how to install energy efficiency measures and how to make a few changes in his/her behavior towards energy use in order to become an informed energy efficient consumer. That means that the consumer is better able to lower his or her energy cost and consumption. That is what prompted the Department of the Environment to give to qualified DC citizens an energy kit worth over $100 that includes materials that can easily be installed in the home. The resident is also given instruction on how to install the materials during a 30 minute workshop when they visit the DC Energy Office or attend the community workshops. The kit includes items such as caulk and caulk gun, plastic storm windows, compact fluorescent bulbs and weather-stripping for doors and windows. The kit has been estimated to save at least 5% on energy bills.
