Lead-Based Paint Management  

Brief Descriptions of Each Program

Lead Hazard Control Cooperative Extension Service

  • Develops and implements Memorandums of Understanding with sister agencies dealing with lead related activities to provide training
  • Reviews lead reduction proposals submitted by contractors for renovation and repair works
  • Assists in implementing HUD Lead-Safe Housing programs
  • Enhances the Child and Family Services goal to evaluate foster care facilities for child placement
  • Enhances evaluations of child development centers
  • Reviews DC Public Schools renovation special projects review
  • Monitors consent decree with the Department of Justice for lead abatement activities

Lead Compliance and Enforcement Program

  • Conducts compliance monitoring inspections on premises or facilities where lead-based paint activities are ongoing
  • May conduct inspections in response to tips and complaints, abatement permits, cooperative agreements or a child identified
    as having a high blood lead level
  • Enforces actions for non-compliance discovered during monitoring inspection
  • Issues certificates for lead hazard control homes and homes listed in “State Lead Hazard Control Registry” based on clearance and compliance inspection results
