Lead-Based Paint Management 

Brief Descriptions of Each Program

Government/Agency Lead Inspector Certification Program

The program, trains, certifies and monitors employees/individuals working for District agencies to assure meet requirements for monitoring lead-based paint activities for safe work practice standards. The program covers the following inspections and inspectors:

  • Routine housing and public property inspections under the direct regulatory supervision of the Department of Health
  • Inspectors for child development centers
  • DHCD inspections of HUD renovation projects
  • DC Housing Authority inspectors for public housing units
  • Childhood Lead Poison Prevention Program inspectors for confirmed elevated blood lead level cases
  • Public School Industrial Hygienists, etc.

Lead Hazard Control Free Technical Assistance Program

Education and outreach activities are provided during facility inspections and certification process to build awareness and involve the public and business community in the District’s efforts:

  • Protect the health of visitors and residents from lead hazards
  • Conduct final compliance inspections by District Certified Lead Inspectors to carry out post hazard control dust wipe sampling
  • Analyze (XRF) and provide written reports for needy and disadvantaged residents at no cost
