DDOE offers a suite of trainings that help District of Columbia teachers fulfill the standards for teaching and learning while helping students develop environmental ethics and responsible stewardship. Project Learning Tree, Project Wet, and Project WILD (internationally recognized conservation education programs) curriculum use forestry, water and animals to provide hands-on, multi-disciplinary training for teachers and community educators working with students. These programs provide knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills designed to help young people make prudent environmental decisions leading to stewardship.
Upon completion of each 8-hour workshop, teachers are given classroom-ready, user friendly teaching guides that help students learn how to think about complex local and global environmental issues. Teachers receive Professional Learning Units. All trainings can be conducted anywhere within the District of Columbia, including any District school. They must be conducted outside of school hours in order for teachers to receive Professional Learning Units. A workshop can take place on two days during the same week, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, or on Saturday, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
