Help Your Customers Meet DC’s ENERGY STAR Benchmarking Requirements

Service providers have an important role to play in achieving a high rate of compliance with the District’s energy benchmarking requirements—which, when fully phased in, will require the disclosure of the energy performance of all private buildings over 50,000 square feet. As the first benchmarking deadline for buildings over 150,000 sq ft approaches, now is the time for energy service providers to help DC customers benchmark their buildings.
On September 26, 2012, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), the DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DC SEU), and the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) will host a free workshop for energy service providers on benchmarking in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
The workshop will feature an in-depth walkthrough of the Portfolio Manager tool, highlighting those features that service providers use to help their customers meet the District’s benchmarking laws. Attendees will learn how Portfolio Manager can help in measuring energy performance, setting goals, tracking savings, and documenting and recognizing achievements. Attendees will also learn about the many resources the EPA ENERGY STAR program has available for the service provider community.
The workshop will also provide a review of the District’s green building legislation, including implementation timeframes and a description of the types of buildings affected by the legislation.
Light refreshments will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop computer to follow along with the live demonstration.

By transit – We recommend taking the Georgetown-Union Station route of the DC Circulator, which comes every 10 minutes. The Circulator costs $1, which can be paid with cash or with a SmarTrip card, and gives you free transfer to any other Circulator or MetroBus. Common stops for the Georgetown-bound DC Circulator are on Massachusetts Ave between N Capitol and 7th Streets or on K St between 12th and 19th Streets. Once on the Circulator, ride until the stop at Wisconsin and R St where you would get off and walk less than a block east on R St to the library entrance.
By car – If coming from downtown DC, take P St, Q St or M St into Georgetown, and turn right on Wisconsin Avenue. If coming from Virginia, take the Key Bridge to Georgetown and turn right on M St., and then left on Wisconsin Ave. Drive north on Wisconsin Avenue until R St and then turn right onto R St. There is a parking lot behind the library, along with on-street parking.
