This four-hour event includes classroom and outdoor training that will teach participants about invasive plant management, including: 1) the problem of invasive plants, 2) what makes plants invasive, 3) identification of invasive plant species and 4) removal and management techniques.
Participation in this class is necessary for certification of volunteers as DC-CWMA Weed Warriors. The Weed Warrior certification will allow individuals to manage invasive plants in specific park areas within the District.
Reading materials: Review of the online training materials prior to attending the training event is highly recommended. Materials are available at DC-CWMA Weed Warriors.

Field Practice: Tool use, safety training, and invasive plant identification. Participants will be assigned a section of the park to practice invasive plant removal along trails in Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.
Certification: At the close of the training, participants that have completed the online test and field training will receive DC CWMA Weed Warrior certification.
Materials: Please bring gloves and water. Tools will be provided.
Attire: Participants are to dress in closed toed shoes, long sleeves and pants. Sunscreen, water and insect repellent are recommended.
The District of Columbia Cooperative Weed Management Area (DC-CWMA) is a partnership of natural resource agencies and conservations organizations with an interest in managing invasive plants in the District to preserve native wildlife habitat.
