2015 Landscaping Rebate Program
District homeowners who install landscaping projects that reduce and/or treat stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces on their property are eligible for a rebate. The rebate amount is calculated based on the total square footage of impervious area that is treated as a result of the project (the treatment area). The treatment area is determined by combining the project area with the impervious areas that are directly draining into the project (may include rooftops, concrete, or asphalt).
Rebates are issued as a direct reimbursement to homeowners at a rate of $1.25 per square foot treated. Regardless of project type, the minimum square footage that must be treated is 400 square feet, which would provide a $500 rebate. The maximum rebate is $1,200. Funds are limited and rebates will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Rain Garden: a garden designed to capture and infiltrate stormwater from the property, preventing it from running into the city sewer system.
Replacement of Impervious Surface with Vegetation: impervious surface is removed and ground is tilled and planted with vegetation. Native plants are strongly recommended; garden, sod, seed/straw are also allowed.
Replacement of Impervious Surface with Pervious Pavers: impervious surface is removed and replaced with permeable bricks, often a patio or parking area, designed to capture and filter stormwater on property.
How It Works
The 2015 Landscaping Rebate Program is administered by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (the Alliance) on behalf of DDOE. Funding is limited so rebates are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Rebates are limited to one per property. Property owners who have already received a RiverSmart Homes grant are eligible for rebate funding. Grant and rebate projects can be combined.
Before Construction Begins
- Determine project type (pervious paver or impervious surface removal) and location.
- Review the 2015 Landscaping Rebate Program Homeowner Guide and Rebate Application Packet.
- Perform a perc test. A perc test worksheet is a part of the Rebate Application Packet.
- Select a contractor or determine the equipment you will need if you will be performing the work yourself.
- Submit the Rebate Application Packet, including a site design, estimated invoice, Perc Test Worksheet, Rebate Maintenance Agreement, and pre-construction photos to Sarah Davidson at the Alliance via email (email@example.com) or mail to: 501 Sixth Street, Annapolis, MD 21403.
- Schedule a pre-construction inspection with DDOE or the Alliance. Construction may begin after approval is granted after the pre-construction inspection. The project must be completed within four months of the notification that pre-construction approval has been granted.
After Construction is Complete
- Notify Sarah Davidson (firstname.lastname@example.org) at the Alliance that construction is complete.
- Submit post-construction photos of project site, final invoice, and a Project Alteration Form if any changes to the original design occurred.
- Schedule a post-construction inspection with DDOE or the Alliance.
- Expect to receive a rebate reimbursement check in the mail four to six weeks after post-construction approval.
