DC Invasives Day 2013

The DC-CWMA, members and partners are holding a multi-location invasive plant removal event on May 4, 2013 as a part of the regional Mid-Atlantic Invasives Day. This will be the 2nd year of the exciting event which provided an opportunity for District residents to be become stewards of forested areas in DC by helping preserve native wildlife habitat. This is also an opportunity to work alongside natural resource managers in the District to learn more about wildlife conservation efforts taking place at these sites.

Register for one of eleven sites below to come help us manage English ivy, bush honeysuckle, garlic mustard, and many other plants that are taking over the forests and meadows of Washington, DC. 

Please Note:

  • Volunteers will receive a brief training in invasive plant ID and tool use.
  • Tools and will be provided.
  • Most sites require waivers. They will be sent to volunteers via email upon registration and many will have additional copies on-site the day of the event.
  • Specific site locations and day-of contacts will be provided upon registration.

LOCATIONS:

  • Two sites at Rock Creek Park with Rock Creek Conservancy and National Park Service staff
  • Fort DuPont Park with the Anacostia Riverkeeper
  • Kingman Island with Living Classrooms and the District Department of the Environment
  • Pope Branch Park with Anacostia Watershed Society
  • Friendship Recreation Center with Little Falls Watershed Alliance
  • Marvin Gaye Park with Washington Parks & People
  • National Arboretum with Arboretum staff
  • Dumbarton Oaks Park with the Dumbarton Oaks Conservancy
  • Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens with National Park Service staff
