Akridge - Mayor's 2014 Sustainability Award Winner

Akridge

Akridge is a commercial real estate operating company and a prominent and highly successful investor and developer in the greater metropolitan Washington, DC market.

Akridge has a 40 year history with important contributions to the Washington, DC region — from the way the company develops its project portfolio, to the creative ways the management team operates and maintains buildings, to the organizations Akridge supports.

Akridge is committed to responsible growth and, therefore, we consistently apply sustainable-building principles to every property we develop or manage. Akridge-managed buildings efficiently use energy, water, and other resources; reduce waste, pollution, and environmental degradation; and, protect occupant health and improve employee productivity.

These efforts are a part of Akridge’s BUILDING SUSTAINABILITY initiative, our comprehensive program to increase the sustainability of the company and the buildings we operate. This initiative ensures that we incorporate environmentally responsible practices that effectively reduce our footprint throughout all of our service offerings and operations.

To achieve our sustainability goals, we focus our efforts on five core areas that contribute to our footprint. Akridge creates, implements, and measures sustainable strategies across these areas. The core areas that drive our continuous improvements are:

  • Conservation
  • Green Building
  • Waste Management
  • Education
  • Purchasing

Part of Akridge’s success in effectively ‘going green’ is due to the aforementioned programs and initiatives, but largely, we are proud to have 115 Akridge team members who are focused on this objective, every day, to advance the goal — turning off a light, testing a new ‘green’ appliance, or reminding others to recycle. Working together, we are encouraged by the impact we have realized through these efforts and by what we will accomplish as our efforts continue.
