Remediation and Site Response Documents
DDOE is addressing legacy contamination on the Anacostia River at a number of sites through the Remediation and Site Response Branch. There is also a sediment project that is designed to investigate the entire tidal estuary portion of the river, in parallel to the site specific investigations and cleanups underway. While there are several more individual sites pending cleanup, a few of the sites have their deliverables available on-line and they are linked below.
- Washington Gas- East Station Site
- Kenilworth Park Landfill Site
- Poplar Point Site
- Washington Navy Yard
- Anacostia River 2032 Update
The attachment below describes how DDOE will implement the on-site permit exemption found in the District of Columbia Brownfields Revitalization Act of 2000 (“Brownfields Law”), DC Official Code § 8-634.01(c). The on-site permit exemption is comparable to the exemption found in Section 121(e) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (“CERCLA”) from which the Brownfields law is based. United States Environmental Protection Agency (“USEPA”) guidance on the subject will be instructive on interpreting the exemption, unless conflicted by District law, regulations, policy documents or any applicable guidance.
