Floodplain Management Program
The District of Columbia has enacted and implemented the floodplain regulations required for participation in NFIP. The NFIP is based on a mutual agreement between the Federal Government and the community (e.g. District of Columbia). Federally backed flood insurance is made available in those communities that agree to regulate development in their mapped floodplains.
Know Your Risk – Look at your property on the current flood risk maps (adopted in 2010) to identify what level of flood risk your property is exposed to. Also, you can look at the previous flood risk maps (dated 1985) to determine if the flood risk exposure of your property has changed with the updated maps.
