Green Zone Environmental Program GZEP
Welcome to the Green Zone Environmental Program (GZEP), one of the largest green jobs training programs for youth in the nation. The program, which operates under the auspices of the District Department of the Environment (DDOE), introduces District youth, age 14 to 24, to the green industry, exposing them to numerous exciting careers through workshops and hands on training in the environment. Additionally, program participants will develop basic skills necessary to succeed in the workplace. GZEP youth workers work on projects that have immeasurable sustainability impact in the District.
About GZEP 2015
GZEP 2015 will begin in July and ends mid-August. Only youth workers that are registered in the District's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) will be allowed to participate in this six-week environmental learning program. Work assignments within the city will include, but will not be limited to, beautification projects, graffiti removal, and invasive plant removal. Classroom and field-based training on environmental issues will also be provided. DDOE will collaborate with other District agencies, non-profit community groups, and private partners to ensure that participants in GZEP are offered meaningful and fun-filled summer work experience.
